Air Pipe Brackets and Pipe Support

Pipe brackets support the weight of the pipework and help prevent movement, sagging and unnecessary stress on threaded joints.

Bracket spacing depends on:

Compressors can transmit vibration into connected pipework. Rigid pipe should not normally be connected directly to a vibrating compressor outlet without an appropriate flexible connection or vibration-isolation arrangement.

Using PTFE Tape Correctly

PTFE tape can help seal suitable threaded pipe connections. It should be applied in the direction of thread engagement so that it remains in place while the fitting is tightened.

The tape should normally be kept clear of the first thread. This reduces the likelihood of loose pieces being cut away and entering the compressed air system.

Excessive PTFE tape can prevent correct thread engagement, place stress on a female fitting and leave material inside the air line.

PTFE Tape Is Not Suitable for Every Connection

PTFE tape should only be used where it is appropriate for the thread and fitting design. Some connections seal using:

  • Bonded washers
  • O-rings
  • Compression olives
  • Gaskets
  • Flared faces
  • Manufacturer-specific sealing arrangements

Applying PTFE tape to the wrong type of connection may prevent the intended seal from working correctly.

Pipe Sizing and Pressure Drop
