Double-Ear Hose Clips

O Clips

Zinc-plated double-ear O clips for securing flexible hose to hose tails in compressed-air, pneumatic and workshop applications, available from 7–9mm to 20–23mm clamping range.

Double-Ear Clips for Secure Hose Connections

These O clips are hose-retention clips, designed to clamp flexible hose securely around a compatible hose tail. They are not O-ring retainers.

The current Tanair range contains nine zinc-plated double-ear clips, from 7–9mm through to 20–23mm. The two ears are crimped during installation to create an even, low-profile clamp around the hose.

Select the clip by the outside diameter of the hose once it has been pushed fully onto the hose tail — not by the hose internal diameter alone.

Shop Double-Ear O Clips by Clamping Range

The live range is shown from the smallest to the largest clamping size: 7–9mm, 9–11mm, 10–12mm, 11–13mm, 13–15mm, 14–17mm, 15–18mm, 17–20mm and 20–23mm.

Measure the finished outside diameter of the hose over the hose tail, then choose a clip whose stated clamping range covers that measurement.
Size Guide

Correct Sizing

Measure the Hose After It Is on the Tail

The most important sizing point is that the clip does not simply match the hose bore. Once flexible hose is pushed over a hose tail, its outside diameter increases.

Measure the outside diameter of the completed hose-and-tail assembly and select a clip whose clamping range includes that measurement.

For example, an 8mm ID hose does not automatically require an 8mm O clip. The correct clip depends on the hose wall thickness and the size of the hose tail underneath it.
How They Work

Why Use a Double-Ear O Clip?

The clip is positioned around the hose over the hose tail, then both ears are compressed using suitable O clip pincers or ear-clamp pliers.

  • Compact, low-profile hose retention
  • Two ears help distribute clamping force around the hose
  • Useful for permanent workshop and pneumatic hose assemblies
  • No protruding screw mechanism like a conventional worm-drive hose clip
Installation

Fitting an O Clip Correctly

  • Choose the correct hose tail for the hose internal diameter
  • Push the hose fully onto the hose tail before measuring
  • Select an O clip with the correct clamping range
  • Position the clip over the hose-tail section
  • Crimp both ears evenly using suitable O clip pincers
  • Inspect the assembly before safely repressurising the system
Single-Use Clamp

Replace O Clips After Removal

Double-ear O clips are normally treated as single-use components. Once the ears have been crimped, the clip should generally be cut off for removal and replaced with a new correctly sized clip rather than reused.

O Clip or Jubilee Clip?

Choose the Retention Method to Suit the Job

O clips provide a compact crimped connection, while Jubilee-style worm-drive clips are adjustable and can be removed more easily. The best choice depends on the hose, pressure, access and application.

Whichever method is used, the hose, fitting and retaining clip must all be suitable for the operating conditions.

FAQs

O Clip FAQs

Are these O-ring retaining clips?

No. The products on this page are zinc-plated double-ear hose clips used to clamp flexible hose onto suitable hose tails.

How do I choose the correct O clip size?

Push the hose fully onto the hose tail, measure the outside diameter of the completed assembly, then choose a clip whose stated clamping range covers that measurement.

Should the clip size match the hose internal diameter?

No. The clip fits around the outside of the hose, so it must be selected using the finished outside diameter over the hose tail.

What tool do I need to fit an O clip?

Use suitable O clip pincers or ear-clamp pliers so the ears can be compressed evenly.

Can an O clip be reused?

Normally no. Once crimped, it should be removed by cutting it off and replaced with a new correctly sized clip.

Why are there overlapping size ranges?

The overlapping ranges make it easier to select a clip that suits the actual finished outside diameter of different hose and hose-tail combinations.

Can you help me work out which size I need?

Yes. Call 0121 753 3330 with the hose dimensions and hose-tail size, or send us a photograph of the assembly.
