If your compressor hasn't been reviewed for a few years, it may no longer be the most efficient machine for the way your site operates today.
Production changes, air demand changes and energy costs change. The compressor that was right for your business when it was installed may not necessarily be the right machine now.
For businesses looking at energy reduction, compressed air can therefore be a very worthwhile place to start.
The Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) helps eligible SMEs identify ways to reduce energy use, operating costs and carbon emissions.
Qualifying businesses can access a free energy assessment, with a report identifying suitable energy-efficiency measures.
Businesses may then have the opportunity to apply for match-funded support towards eligible recommendations within that report.
BEAS has already identified compressed-air equipment upgrades within energy assessments for West Midlands manufacturers. Whether a particular compressor project qualifies will depend on the individual assessment and current funding conditions.

Older fixed-speed compressors generally operate at one motor speed. As site demand falls, they can continue consuming significant electricity while running unloaded.
If your air demand changes throughout the day, a correctly selected variable-speed compressor can adjust its output to follow the amount of compressed air actually required.
That doesn't mean VSD is automatically right for every application. It means the compressor should be selected around the site rather than simply replacing the old machine like-for-like.
Ultron Technologies manufactures printed circuit boards and specialist electrical equipment, with compressed air playing an important role throughout production.
Their previous Champion KA4 compressor was operating at full capacity for extended periods and was no longer ideally suited to the demands of the site.
We replaced the existing machine with a Tanair TAN10-VSD/10 variable-speed compressor, allowing output to follow site demand more effectively.
The result was lower projected energy consumption, reduced annual running costs and a system better suited to the customer's production requirements.
The project also enabled the backup compressor to be relocated into a purpose-prepared external enclosure, freeing valuable production space.

We look at your actual air demand, operating hours, working pressure, loaded and unloaded running and any changes to production before recommending a replacement.
The aim is to put the right compressor on the job — not simply the same compressor back in the room.
Our current TAN-S range combines permanent-magnet motor technology with variable-speed control for applications where air demand varies.
We currently offer machines from compact workshop duties through to larger industrial compressed-air applications.

In suitable applications, modern permanent-magnet VSD technology can offer significant savings compared with older fixed-speed equipment. But we would rather calculate that around your actual system than give every customer the same headline figure.
Our online energy-savings calculator can give you an initial indication of what an upgrade could look like before we review the system in more detail.
Try the Tanair ROI Calculator →Improving efficiency sometimes means looking at the complete compressed-air system rather than one machine in isolation.
The important question isn't just what a replacement compressor costs. It's what the existing compressor is already costing your business to keep running.

The site is reviewed and recommendations for reducing energy use are prepared.
If the compressor system forms part of the recommendations, this is where we can help.
We can provide equipment selection, technical specification, energy information, quotation and installation details.
If you're seeking grant support, make sure the appropriate funding approval is in place before committing to expenditure.
No. BEAS offers up to 50% match funding towards eligible projects. Approval depends on the assessment, application, eligibility and available funding.
Compressed-air upgrades can be identified as an energy-saving measure, but any individual project must meet the programme's current eligibility and grant requirements.
The funding is administered independently. We can support the compressor side of the project with technical information, energy calculations, equipment selection and quotations.
If you intend to apply for funding, check the programme requirements and obtain any necessary approval before committing to expenditure.
It can still be worth reviewing the system. Where an existing compressor is operating inefficiently, the energy savings may make an upgrade worthwhile even without grant support.
Whether you're looking at BEAS funding or simply want to understand whether your current compressed-air system could operate more efficiently, speak to our team.
We can review the application, look at the actual air demand and help establish whether an upgrade makes commercial sense before you make a decision.
