Why Hose Bore Matters

The internal diameter of an air hose affects how easily compressed air can flow through it. A hose that is too restrictive for the connected tool can contribute to pressure drop and poor tool performance.

This becomes more important as hose length and air consumption increase. A 10mm bore is useful for many workshop applications, but the correct size still depends on the actual airflow required.

Choosing Hose Tails, Couplings & Clips

The hose itself is only part of the air line. Any hose tail, quick-release coupling, clip or threaded adaptor must match the hose bore and the connection on the compressor, pipework or air tool.

• Match the hose tail to the 10mm internal diameter
• Check BSP thread size on the compressor, regulator or tool
• Use suitable hose retention for the intended pressure and application
• Keep couplings and fittings large enough to avoid unnecessary restriction

Look After Your Compressed-Air Hose

• Route hose away from sharp edges and avoid unnecessary kinking
• Protect it from vehicle traffic and crushing where possible
• Inspect regularly for cuts, cracking, bulging or damaged fittings
• Replace damaged hose rather than relying on temporary repairs
• Fully isolate and depressurise the air supply before changing hose or fittings
