Precise Compressed-Air Pressure Control

Air Pressure Regulators

Tanair industrial air regulators for reducing compressed-air supply pressure to a controlled downstream setting for tools, machinery and pneumatic equipment.

Tanair Industrial Air Regulators

The current range contains four Tanair regulators covering 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 1" BSP connections, with the product pages listing a 10 bar pressure rating and mounting brackets.

An air pressure regulator reduces the higher supply pressure to a stable adjustable downstream pressure. This helps equipment operate at the pressure it actually needs rather than at full compressor-line pressure.

Correct selection should consider connection size, required flow, inlet pressure, desired outlet-pressure range and the pneumatic equipment being supplied.

Do not choose a regulator from thread size alone. The regulator must also provide sufficient airflow at the required downstream pressure without excessive pressure drop.
Range Guide

Tanair Air Regulator Range

R13614-C/MB · 1/4" BSP

Compact pressure regulator for smaller pneumatic tools, local workstations and point-of-use compressed-air control.

R14624-C/MB · 3/8" BSP

Mid-size industrial regulator for workshop air points, service equipment and general pneumatic applications.

R15634-C/MB · 1/2" BSP

General-purpose regulator for larger tools, machinery and workshop distribution points requiring increased airflow.

R17654-C/MB · 1" BSP

Larger regulator for higher-flow industrial compressed-air systems and central pneumatic equipment feeds.

How It Works

What Does an Air Pressure Regulator Do?

A regulator takes compressed air at a higher inlet pressure and reduces it to the adjustable downstream pressure required by the application. The internal regulating mechanism responds to pressure changes to help maintain the selected outlet setting.

  • Reduces line pressure to the pressure needed by the equipment
  • Helps provide a more stable downstream pressure
  • Protects tools and pneumatic components from excessive pressure
  • Can help avoid unnecessary compressed-air consumption where equipment does not need full line pressure
Sizing

How to Choose the Correct Air Regulator

Connection Size

Match the BSP connection to the pipework or equipment, allowing for any suitable adaptors where required.

Required Airflow

Check the tool or process air demand. An undersized regulator can create excessive pressure drop when flow increases.

Inlet Pressure

Confirm the regulator is suitable for the maximum pressure available upstream.

Outlet Pressure

Choose a regulator whose adjustment range covers the pressure required by the downstream equipment.

Efficiency

Can Lowering Pressure Reduce Air Use?

Where a tool or process is being supplied at a higher pressure than it needs, regulating the pressure down can reduce unnecessary air consumption. This is especially useful at individual workstations or machine feeds where different equipment needs different pressures.

A regulator does not create extra airflow. If downstream pressure falls heavily while a tool is running, check regulator capacity, pipe size, hose size, fittings and the available compressor airflow.
Typical Applications

Where Are Air Regulators Used?

  • Pneumatic air tools and workshop outlets
  • Production machinery and automated equipment
  • Spray and finishing equipment where controlled pressure is required
  • Cylinders, valves and pneumatic controls
  • Individual machine feeds within larger compressed-air systems
  • Maintenance and service installations
Installation

Air Regulator Installation & Adjustment

  • Install in the airflow direction marked on the body
  • Use adequately sized pipework and fittings
  • Set the regulator while air is flowing where accurate working pressure is important
  • Use a suitable pressure gauge where the downstream setting needs to be monitored
  • Lock the adjustment mechanism where the regulator design allows it
  • Fully isolate and depressurise the compressed-air system before installation or maintenance
Regulator vs Filter Regulator

Do I Also Need Filtration?

An air regulator controls pressure; it does not replace filtration. If the compressed air contains water, particles or oil aerosols, use the appropriate filter or air-treatment stages as well.

For a compact point-of-use arrangement, a combined filter-regulator or FRL assembly may be more appropriate where filtration, pressure regulation and lubrication are required together.

FAQs

Air Pressure Regulator FAQs

What is an air pressure regulator?

It is a pneumatic device that reduces a higher inlet pressure to a controlled adjustable downstream pressure for tools, machinery or processes.

What sizes are available in this Tanair range?

The current range includes 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 1" BSP regulators.

Are these regulators rated to 10 bar?

The current product listings describe all four Tanair regulators as 10 bar models.

Can I choose a regulator just from the thread size?

No. Also check airflow capacity, inlet pressure and required downstream pressure. An undersized regulator can cause pressure drop under load.

Should I adjust the regulator with air flowing?

For applications where accurate working pressure matters, check and set pressure under representative operating flow rather than relying only on a static reading.

Does a regulator filter the compressed air?

No. A standalone regulator controls pressure. Filtration must be provided separately unless you use a combined filter-regulator or FRL assembly.

Can Compressed Air Systems UK help with regulator selection?

Yes. Call 0121 753 3330 with the connection size, inlet pressure, required outlet pressure and airflow.
