Compressed Air Isolation Valves

Ball Valves

Mini and standard BSP lever ball valves for isolating compressed-air pipework, receiver outlets, workshop air lines and individual sections of an installation.

Ball Valves for Compressed-Air Pipework

The range includes compact black mini ball valves in 1/4" and 3/8" BSP, plus standard red-lever female x female valves from 1/4" through to 2" BSP.

A quarter-turn ball valve gives a simple and practical way to isolate equipment or sections of pipework for routine operation, servicing, extensions and maintenance.

Choose the valve by BSP size, connection type and system requirements. Mini valves are particularly useful where installation space is limited.

Shop BSP Ball Valves

Mini ball valves are shown first by size and connection type, followed by the standard female x female red-lever range from 1/4" to 2" BSP.

Check the BSP size and whether you need female x female or male x female connections before ordering.
Mini Ball Valves

Compact Ball Valves for Tight Installations

1/4" Female x Female

Compact black lever valve for 1/4" BSP compressed-air connections where space is limited.

1/4" Male x Female

Useful where a compact valve needs to screw directly into a female threaded port while providing a female outlet.

3/8" Female x Female

Compact 3/8" BSP isolation valve for receivers, local air points and workshop pipework.

3/8" Male x Female

Compact mixed-connection option for suitable 3/8" BSP installations.

Standard Ball Valves

Red-Lever Female x Female Ball Valves

The standard range covers the most common BSP sizes used in compressed-air distribution systems:

  • 1/4" BSP
  • 3/8" BSP
  • 1/2" BSP
  • 3/4" BSP
  • 1" BSP
  • 1 1/4" BSP
  • 1 1/2" BSP
  • 2" BSP
Where They Are Used

Typical Ball Valve Applications

Air Receiver Outlets

Provide a straightforward isolation point between the receiver and downstream pipework.

Machine Drops

Allow individual machines or workstations to be isolated without shutting down the entire air system.

Pipework Sections

Section valves can make extensions, maintenance and fault finding more practical.

Filters & Air Treatment

Suitable isolation points can help make downstream equipment easier to service when correctly installed.

Selection

How to Choose the Correct Ball Valve

BSP Size

Match the valve to the thread size of the pipework, receiver or component connection.

Connection Type

Check whether the installation requires female x female or male x female threads.

Available Space

Mini ball valves are useful where there is limited clearance around the connection or operating handle.

System Duty

Confirm the selected valve is suitable for the pressure, medium and installation requirements before use.

Installation

Ball Valve Installation Guidance

  • Fully isolate and depressurise the compressed-air system before installation
  • Use the correct mating BSP threads and suitable sealing method
  • Avoid excessive tightening or applying unnecessary load to the valve body
  • Position the handle where it can be operated safely and easily
  • Support adjacent pipework so the valve is not carrying unnecessary mechanical load
  • Check all joints for leakage after the system has been safely repressurised

FAQs

Ball Valve FAQs

What sizes of ball valve are available?

The current range includes mini 1/4" and 3/8" BSP valves, plus standard female x female valves from 1/4" to 2" BSP.

What is the difference between a mini and standard ball valve?

A mini valve has a more compact body and handle arrangement, making it useful where installation space is limited. The standard range is available in a wider spread of BSP sizes.

What does female x female mean?

Both threaded valve connections are female. A male x female valve has one male threaded end and one female threaded end.

Can a ball valve be used to isolate part of a compressed-air system?

Yes. Ball valves are commonly used as isolation points for sections of pipework, receivers and equipment when correctly specified and installed.

Should I use a ball valve to regulate airflow?

Ball valves are primarily used for on/off isolation. Where controlled downstream pressure is required, use a suitable air pressure regulator.

Can Compressed Air Systems UK help with pipework fittings?

Yes. We supply valves, fittings, brackets and related compressed-air pipework components and can also assist with installation projects.
