Control Valves
Shop Genie pressure-control and unloader valves for compatible petrol and diesel driven piston compressors, with 1/2" and 3/4" connection options.
Genie Unloader Valves for Engine-Driven Compressors
Genie unloader valves are used on suitable petrol and diesel driven piston compressors to control receiver pressure and unload the compressor when the upper pressure setting is reached.
This allows the engine to continue running at idle rather than repeatedly stopping and restarting as pressure demand changes.
The current range contains 1/2" and 3/4" valve options. Match the valve to the compressor configuration, connection and operating requirements.

How Does a Genie Unloader Valve Work?
On a suitable engine-driven compressor, the unloader valve responds to pressure in the air receiver. When the upper pressure setting is reached, the compressor is unloaded so the engine can continue running without compressing air against the full system load.
As receiver pressure falls to the lower operating setting, the valve allows the compressor to return to loaded operation.
Choosing the Correct Control Valve
Connection Size
Confirm whether the compressor requires the 1/2" or 3/4" version and check the connection arrangement.
Operating Pressure
Confirm that the valve and its pressure adjustment range are appropriate for the compressor and receiver.
Compressor Type
These Genie valves are intended for compatible engine-driven piston compressor applications.
Accelerator / Actuator
Where the compressor uses engine-speed control or an actuator, confirm that the control-port arrangement matches the existing system.
1/2" Genie Unloader Valve Features
- 1/2" compressor unloader valve
- Adjustable cut-in and cut-out pressure settings
- Integrated non-return valve
- Additional port for accelerator or actuator connection
- Suitable for compatible petrol and diesel driven piston compressors
- Stated airflow range of 0.18 m³/min to 3 m³/min
Integrated Non-Return Valve
The 1/2" PUV170 incorporates a non-return valve as part of its control arrangement. This helps prevent receiver air flowing back towards the compressor pump when the compressor is unloaded.
Because the non-return and unloading functions form part of the compressor operating system, the replacement valve should be correctly matched rather than substituted by physical appearance alone.
Control Valve Maintenance
- Check for persistent air leakage
- Inspect fittings and threaded connections
- Check that unloading occurs at the intended pressure
- Confirm the compressor returns to load correctly
- Inspect accelerator or actuator connections where fitted
- Replace worn valve service components as required

Control Valve FAQs
What does a Genie unloader valve do?
It controls pressure on a compatible engine-driven compressor by unloading the compressor at the upper pressure setting and allowing it to return to loaded operation as receiver pressure falls.
Are these valves for petrol and diesel compressors?
Yes. The Genie unloader valves in this range are intended for compatible petrol and diesel driven piston compressor applications.
What sizes are available?
The current range includes 1/2" and 3/4" Genie unloader valve options.
Does the PUV170 include a non-return valve?
Yes. The 1/2" PUV170 incorporates a non-return valve as part of its pressure-control and unloading arrangement.
Can I select the valve using connection size alone?
No. The compressor type, operating pressure, control arrangement and existing valve specification should also be confirmed.
Can Compressed Air Systems UK help identify a replacement?
Yes. Provide the existing valve reference, compressor model, engine type, operating pressure, connection size and clear photographs where possible.
Need Help Choosing a Genie Unloader Valve?
Send us the existing valve reference, compressor model, engine type and connection size and our team can help identify the appropriate replacement.
