Genie Control & Unloader Valves for Piston Compressors

The current Tanair control-valve range contains two Genie PUV170 unloader valves: a 1/2" version and a 3/4" version. These are designed for compatible petrol and diesel driven piston compressor applications where the valve manages pressure control and compressor unloading.

Because control valves influence compressor loading, idling and receiver pressure, the connection size should not be the only selection criteria. Compressor type, pressure requirement and existing valve specification should also be checked.

How to Choose the Correct Control Valve

Confirm the Connection Size

The current range includes 1/2" and 3/4" versions. Check the receiver or compressor connection and the existing valve before selecting.

Check the Compressor Type

These Genie valves are intended for compatible petrol and diesel driven piston compressors, not as a universal control valve for every compressor type.

Confirm the Pressure Requirement

The valve forms part of the compressor pressure-control arrangement, so operating pressure and adjustment requirements should be checked before fitment.

Match the Existing Valve Where Possible

The safest replacement route is to compare the existing valve reference, connection arrangement and compressor model rather than selecting from appearance alone.

Check Additional Connections

Unloader/control valves can include additional ports for accelerator, actuator or unloading functions. Make sure the connection arrangement suits the compressor.

Ask Before Ordering if Unsure

If the current valve is damaged or its markings are unreadable, send photos of the compressor data plate and existing valve so compatibility can be checked.

What a Genie Unloader Valve Does

Pressure Control Helps manage compressor operating pressure within the intended control range.
Load & Unload Operation Allows compatible engine-driven compressors to unload when the maximum pressure is reached.
Engine Idling Supports the idling arrangement used on compatible petrol and diesel compressor systems.
Receiver Installation Designed for compatible receiver-mounted compressor control arrangements.
Integrated Valve Functions The 1/2" PUV170 product information includes an integrated non-return valve and additional control port.
Replacement Maintenance Suitable for replacement where the valve specification and compressor compatibility are confirmed.

Control Valve FAQs

What control valves are currently available?

The current Tanair range includes a 1/2" Genie PUV170 unloader valve and a 3/4" Genie PUV170 unloader valve.

What compressors are these valves intended for?

They are intended for compatible petrol and diesel driven piston compressor applications.

Can I choose the valve just by the thread size?

No. Connection size is important, but compressor type, pressure requirements, control arrangement and the original valve specification should also be checked.

What is an unloader valve used for?

In this type of application, the valve forms part of the compressor's pressure-control and unloading system, allowing the compressor to unload and the engine to idle when the required pressure is reached.

How can I identify my existing valve?

Check for the valve reference, connection size and markings, and provide the compressor model and serial number. Clear photos can also help.

Can Compressed Air Systems UK help me choose the right one?

Yes. Call 0121 753 3330 with the compressor and valve details and the team can help narrow down the correct option.

Need Help Choosing a Compressor Control Valve?

Tell us the compressor model, existing valve reference and whether the connection is 1/2" or 3/4" and our team can help identify the correct Genie unloader valve.
