Energy-Efficient Condensate Control

Zero Loss Drains

Electronic zero-air-loss condensate drains for air receivers, dryers, filters and compressed-air systems from 100 to 5277 CFM.

Zero-Air-Loss Condensate Drains

Zero loss drains detect collected condensate and discharge it only when required. Unlike timer drains, they do not open at fixed intervals when no liquid is present, helping reduce compressed-air waste.

The current range contains four Tanair ZLD models from 100 to 5277 CFM plus two Omega EMD electronic drains at 310 and 646 CFM.

The Tanair ZLD range is shown first in numerical order, followed by the Omega EMD12 and EMD25 models.

How It Works

How a Zero Loss Drain Works

Condensate enters the drain reservoir and is monitored by an electronic level sensor. Once the liquid reaches the discharge level, the valve opens and then closes again before usable compressed air escapes.

  • Discharges condensate only when liquid is present
  • Reduces compressed-air waste compared with conventional timer drains
  • Helps reduce avoidable compressor running and energy use
  • Suitable for compatible receivers, dryers, filters and separators
  • Useful for unattended or continuously operated systems
Sizing Guide

Choose the Correct Zero Loss Drain

Capacity

Match the drain to the total compressor or treatment-equipment capacity connected to it.

Working Pressure

Confirm the minimum and maximum operating-pressure limits before ordering.

Connections

Check inlet and outlet thread sizes, orientation and the required condensate discharge arrangement.

Alarm Output

Confirm whether remote alarm or monitoring functionality is required for the installation.

Zero Loss vs Timer Drain

Why Choose a Zero-Air-Loss Drain?

A timer drain opens at fixed intervals whether or not condensate is present. A zero loss drain responds to the actual liquid level, so the valve opens only when there is condensate to discharge.

Where the compressor operates for long periods, reducing unnecessary air discharge can help avoid wasted compressed air and the energy used to replace it.
Condensate Treatment

Zero Air Loss Does Not Mean Zero Condensate Treatment

A zero loss drain prevents unnecessary compressed-air loss during discharge, but the liquid being discharged still needs to be handled correctly.

Condensate from oil-injected compressors may contain lubricant. Route discharge to a suitable collection or oil-water separator system rather than directly to an unauthorised drain or watercourse.
Installation & Maintenance

Zero Loss Drain Installation Checks

  • Isolate and fully depressurise the connected equipment before installation or servicing
  • Confirm the electrical supply and alarm-output requirements
  • Install the drain in the correct orientation
  • Keep the inlet free from excessive rust, scale, oil sludge and debris
  • Route condensate safely to the appropriate treatment system
  • Use the test function regularly
  • Inspect the sensor, valve and discharge line for contamination or blockage

FAQs

Zero Loss Drain FAQs

What is a zero loss drain?

It is an electronic condensate drain that opens only when liquid is present and closes before compressed air escapes.

How is it different from a timer drain?

A timer drain opens at fixed intervals. A zero loss drain responds to the actual condensate level, reducing unnecessary air discharge.

What capacities are available?

The current range includes Tanair ZLD models up to 100, 353, 1000 and 5277 CFM, plus Omega EMD12 at 310 CFM and EMD25 at 646 CFM.

How do I size a zero loss drain?

Match capacity to the connected compressor or treatment equipment, then check pressure, connection size and expected condensate load.

Where can one be installed?

Common locations include air receivers, refrigerated dryers, compressed-air filters, separators and compatible low points in a compressed-air system.

Does a zero loss drain need maintenance?

Yes. Test operation regularly and inspect the inlet, sensor, valve and discharge line for contamination or blockage.

Does zero air loss mean I can discharge the condensate anywhere?

No. The drain prevents compressed-air waste, but oily condensate must still be collected and treated correctly.
