Hose Tails & Barb Fittings

Air Hose Fittings

Tanair BSP hose tails for connecting flexible air hose to compressors, pipework, receivers and pneumatic equipment, with barb sizes from 6mm to 25mm.

BSP Hose Tails for Compressed-Air Hose

The current range includes 1/4" BSP male and female hose tails, plus larger 1/2", 3/4" and 1" BSP male fittings for bigger-bore hose.

To select the correct fitting, match the threaded connection to the equipment and the hose barb to the internal diameter of the hose.

For a secure assembly, use a suitable hose clip or O clip matched to the hose outside diameter and working conditions.

Shop Air Hose Fittings by BSP & Hose Size

1/4" BSP male fittings are shown first by hose-barb size, followed by 1/4" BSP female fittings, then the larger 1/2", 3/4" and 1" male hose tails.

The hose barb should match the hose internal diameter. For example, an 8mm hose barb is intended for compatible 8mm ID hose.

Need the Hose Too?

We also stock black rubber hose, clear braided hose, nylon tubing and coiled hose.

Choosing a Fitting

Match Both Ends of the Hose Tail

A hose tail has two different sizes to check: the BSP thread that connects to the equipment, and the hose barb that fits inside the flexible hose.

BSP Thread

Match the male or female BSP connection to the threaded port on the compressor, receiver, regulator, valve or adaptor.

Hose Barb

Match the barb diameter to the hose internal diameter so the hose seats correctly on the fitting.

Do not choose from the BSP size alone. A 1/4" BSP hose tail can be supplied with different hose-barb sizes.
Male or Female?

Check the Existing Thread Before Ordering

A male BSP hose tail screws into a compatible female threaded port. A female BSP hose tail screws onto a compatible male thread.

If the existing connection is difficult to identify, send us a photograph and the thread size before ordering.

Securing the Hose

Use the Correct Hose Clip or Clamp

Once the hose is pushed fully onto the barb, it should be retained using a suitable clip or clamp for the hose type, outside diameter, pressure and application.

  • Match the hose barb to the hose internal diameter
  • Match the clip or clamp to the hose outside diameter
  • Use components suitable for the system pressure and operating environment
  • Inspect the connection after pressurising and check for air leakage
Airflow

Avoid Restricting the Air Line

Hose, fittings and couplings all contribute to the available airflow. For higher-demand pneumatic tools, using a hose tail or connection that is too small can add unnecessary restriction and pressure drop.

If you are building a hose assembly for an air tool, call 0121 753 3330 with the hose bore, tool CFM and connection details if you would like us to check the fitting size.

Complete the Air Hose Assembly

Alongside hose tails, Compressed Air Systems UK supplies O clips, Jubilee clips, pushfit fittings and quick-release couplings for compressed-air systems.

Quick-release profiles such as PCL and Euro are not automatically interchangeable, so check the coupling profile as well as the thread size when connecting to existing equipment.

FAQs

Air Hose Fitting FAQs

How do I choose the correct hose tail?

Match the BSP thread size and gender to the equipment connection, then match the hose barb diameter to the hose internal diameter.

What size hose fits an 8mm hose barb?

Use compatible hose with an 8mm internal diameter.

What is the difference between male and female BSP hose tails?

A male hose tail screws into a female threaded port. A female hose tail screws onto a male threaded connection.

Do I need a hose clip?

A suitable hose retention method should be used where required for the hose type and application. Match the clip or clamp to the hose outside diameter and operating conditions.

Can I use a larger hose on a smaller barb?

No. The hose and barb should be correctly matched. A poor size match can result in an unreliable or leaking connection.

Can you help me identify the fitting I need?

Yes. Call 0121 753 3330 or send the BSP size, hose internal diameter and a clear photograph of the existing connection.

Need Help Matching Hose & Fittings?

Tell us the hose ID and the BSP connection you need and our team can help identify the correct hose tail, clip and coupling.
