Smoke Ventilation Air Compressors
Semi-duplex, tandem, basemount and control-panel solutions for pneumatic smoke-control systems where dependable stored air and controlled compressor operation are part of the project design.
Smoke Ventilation Compressor & Control Routes
Selection Must Follow the Smoke-Control System Design
Smoke ventilation is a specialist application. Compressor capacity, receiver volume, pressure switches, controls, standby philosophy and electrical arrangement should be selected against the requirements of the complete smoke-control system.
What We Need to Specify a Package
Semi-Duplex vs Tandem
| Arrangement | Typical Description | What Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Semi-Duplex | Two independently driven compressor pumps arranged around a shared receiver and control strategy. | Sequencing, pressure-switch logic, motor supply, receiver size and project specification. |
| Tandem | Dual-compressor arrangement configured to deliver the required duty and standby philosophy. | Whether both units run together, alternate or provide standby capacity must follow the control design. |
| Single Basemount + Panel | Basemount compressors paired with a dedicated control-panel arrangement. | Compressor compatibility, panel voltage, switching logic and receiver/system requirements. |
Control Panel Options
The current range includes dedicated control panels for twin 230V and twin 415V compressor arrangements, together with made-to-order control-panel options for projects that require a different control configuration.
Why Stored Air Matters
In pneumatic smoke-control systems, the receiver provides stored compressed air that can be available independently of the instantaneous compressor output. Receiver sizing should therefore follow the required actuator demand, pressure range and project design rather than being selected from compressor motor size alone.

Smoke Ventilation Compressor FAQs
What is a semi-duplex air compressor?
A semi-duplex arrangement typically uses two independently driven compressor pumps with a shared receiver and dedicated control strategy. The exact arrangement should follow the project specification.
Do I need a dedicated control panel?
Where two compressors are required to alternate, stage or provide standby duty, a suitable control arrangement is normally required. The exact panel and logic depend on the system design.
Do you supply 230V and 415V control panels?
Yes. The current range includes AC002-230 and AC002-415 panel options for compatible twin-compressor arrangements.
Can you build a bespoke control panel?
Yes, bespoke control-panel options are available for suitable projects where the standard arrangements do not match the required control philosophy.
Does buying a smoke-ventilation compressor make the complete system compliant?
No. Compliance and suitability apply to the complete smoke-control system and must be assessed against the relevant design, specification, controls, installation and commissioning requirements.
