Which Quick Release Profile Do You Need?

Quick-release fittings are not universal. The plug and coupling must use the same profile, and the thread or hose-tail connection must also match the equipment.

Euro

Best for High-Flow Air Tools

A larger-bore profile commonly used where impact tools, spray equipment and other demanding pneumatic equipment need strong airflow.

PCL Type

Best for General UK Workshops

A familiar UK workshop profile suited to garages, maintenance teams, general air tools and everyday airline connections.

QR100

Best for Larger Airline Connections

A larger 100 Series profile for higher-demand workshop and industrial installations using compatible bodies and tail adaptors.

Do not mix Euro, PCL and QR100 components unless compatibility has been specifically confirmed. Similar-looking fittings may not lock or seal safely.

Quick Release Fittings for Compressed Air Systems

Quick release fittings, also known as quick disconnect fittings, are essential components in compressed air systems. They allow fast, safe connection and disconnection of air tools, hoses and pneumatic equipment without the need for tools or isolating the air supply.

Designed for convenience, efficiency and reliability, quick release couplings help reduce downtime in busy workshops, garages and industrial environments. Whether you run a single airline or a larger compressed air network, they make day-to-day tool changes quicker and more secure.

How Quick Release Couplings Work

Each fitting is made up of two main parts: a coupler and a plug. The coupler is installed on the air supply line, while the plug is connected to the hose, tool or pneumatic equipment.

When the plug is inserted into the coupler, a spring-loaded locking mechanism engages automatically to create a firm, leak-resistant seal. To disconnect, the outer sleeve is pulled back to release the plug safely. This simple design supports fast changes while helping maintain consistent air pressure and reducing accidental disconnection.

Available Quick Release Systems

  • Euro Quick Release Fittings for common workshop and industrial compressed air systems
  • PCL Type Fittings to suit standard UK PCL compressed air setups
  • QR100 Fittings for heavier-duty applications and higher airflow requirements
  • Multiple thread sizes and configurations to suit a wide range of air installations

Quick release air fittings are widely used across automotive, engineering, manufacturing, aerospace and maintenance environments where reliability, speed and ease of use are essential.

What to Check Before Ordering

  • Existing coupling profile: Euro, PCL type or QR100
  • Whether you need the female coupling body or matching male plug
  • Male or female BSP thread
  • Thread size or hose internal diameter
  • Required airflow and working pressure
  • Whether a safety or venting coupling is required
  • Condition of the existing hose, plug and coupling seal

Where the fitting profile is unknown, compare the plug shape and dimensions and provide a clear photograph alongside the thread or hose measurements.

Quick Release Fittings FAQs

Are Euro, PCL and QR100 fittings interchangeable?

No. Each uses a different plug and coupling profile. Matching thread sizes do not make the quick-release ends compatible.

What is the difference between a coupling and a plug?

The female coupling contains the locking sleeve and internal seal. The male plug or adaptor inserts into it to complete the connection.

Which profile is best for high-airflow tools?

Euro and QR100 profiles are commonly used for higher-flow applications, but the complete hose, regulator and airline system must also be correctly sized.

How do I identify the fitting already installed?

Check the plug shape, dimensions, profile, thread size and thread gender. Clear photographs help, but measurements may still be required.

Why does a quick-release coupling leak?

Common causes include a worn seal, damaged plug, mismatched profile, contamination, side loading or an incorrectly sealed threaded connection.
