Filtration + Pressure Control

Filter Regulators

Tanair combined filter regulators for removing bulk moisture and particulate contamination while maintaining controlled downstream pressure for workshop and industrial pneumatic systems.

Combined Tanair Filter Regulators

This page is now focused on the true combined filter-regulator units. The regulator-only TAN-MAR products belong on the separate Air Regulators page and are not included in this product grid.

The live filter-regulator range covers 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 1" BSP connections, with both manual-drain and automatic-drain options. Selected FRC models use 50 micron filtration.

Choose by connection size, actual airflow, inlet pressure, required outlet pressure, drain type and filtration requirement — not thread size alone.

The range is arranged by connection size, with the 1/2" manual-drain unit shown before the 1/2" automatic-drain unit.

If you only need pressure reduction and do not need a filter bowl, use the separate Air Regulators range rather than a combined filter regulator.
Range Guide

Tanair Filter Regulator Range

FRC136144-C/MB · 1/4"

Manual-drain, 50 micron combined filter regulator for compact point-of-use pneumatic systems and smaller air tools.

FRC146244-C/MB · 3/8"

Manual-drain, 50 micron industrial filter regulator for workshops, tyre equipment, service bays and general machinery.

AW4000-04 · 1/2"

Manual-drain 1/2" filter regulator supplied with gauge and mounting bracket for general workshop and industrial use.

FRC156344-A-C/MB · 1/2"

Automatic-drain, 50 micron model for busier air points and installations where regular manual condensate draining is less convenient.

FRC176544-A-C/MB · 1"

High-flow automatic-drain, 50 micron filter regulator for larger workshops and industrial compressed-air lines.

Need Regulator Only?

If filtration is already provided elsewhere, use the separate Tanair Air Regulators range instead of adding another filter stage unnecessarily.

How It Works

What Does a Filter Regulator Do?

A combined filter regulator performs two jobs in one assembly. The filter section separates bulk moisture and particulate contamination, while the regulator section reduces and stabilises the downstream air pressure.

  • Helps remove bulk water and particulate contamination
  • Provides adjustable downstream pressure control
  • Helps protect air tools, valves, cylinders and pneumatic machinery
  • Reduces the number of separate components required at the point of use
Sizing

How to Choose the Correct Filter Regulator

Connection Size

Confirm the BSP connection required by the pipework or equipment.

Airflow

The unit must pass the required airflow without excessive pressure drop during operation.

Pressure Range

Check both maximum inlet pressure and the outlet-pressure range needed by the downstream equipment.

Drain Type

Choose manual drainage for regularly attended systems or automatic drainage where condensate should be discharged without routine manual emptying.

Manual vs Automatic Drain

Which Drain Type Should I Choose?

Manual Drain

Suitable where the bowl is easy to inspect and condensate can be emptied as part of routine operator checks.

Automatic Drain

Useful for busier or less frequently attended air points where condensate can otherwise accumulate between inspections.

Filtration

Does a Filter Regulator Replace a Dryer?

No. A general-purpose filter regulator removes bulk moisture and particulate contamination, but it does not provide the controlled pressure dew point of a refrigerated or adsorption dryer.

Where lower oil aerosol, particle or moisture levels are required, use the appropriate dryer and staged high-efficiency filtration in addition to the filter regulator.
Installation

Installation & Maintenance Guidance

  • Install in the airflow direction marked on the body
  • Keep the filter bowl upright so condensate can collect correctly
  • Set outlet pressure while air is flowing where working pressure matters
  • Drain manual bowls routinely and check automatic drains for correct operation
  • Monitor pressure drop and replace the filter element at the appropriate service interval
  • Fully isolate and depressurise the compressed-air system before maintenance

FAQs

Filter Regulator FAQs

What does a filter regulator do?

It combines filtration and pressure regulation in one unit, helping remove bulk moisture and particles while reducing the downstream pressure to the required setting.

Why are the TAN-MAR regulators not shown here?

They are regulator-only products rather than combined filter regulators, so they belong in the separate Air Regulators range.

What connection sizes are available?

The current combined range covers 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 1" BSP connections.

Can I choose a filter regulator by thread size alone?

No. Also confirm airflow capacity, inlet pressure, required outlet pressure, drain type and filtration requirement.

What is the difference between manual and automatic drain models?

A manual drain is emptied during routine checks. An automatic drain discharges collected condensate without relying on manual bowl draining.

Does a filter regulator replace an air dryer?

No. It provides general filtration but does not provide the controlled pressure dew point of a refrigerated or adsorption dryer.

Can Compressed Air Systems UK help with selection?

Yes. Call 0121 753 3330 with the connection size, airflow and pressure requirements.
