Power Systems Variable Speed Compressors

NOBEL Variable Speed Industrial Compressors

Compare 7.5–90 kW variable speed rotary screw compressors, including standard VSD and permanent magnet models with outputs from 21 to 562 CFM.

Choose the Right NOBEL Variable Speed Configuration

Start by deciding whether your site already has a suitable receiver and dryer, or whether these should be included as part of the compressor package.

Floor Mounted

Best where a suitable receiver and air-treatment system already exist or will be specified separately.

Floor Mounted + Dryer

Useful where an existing receiver can remain in service but integrated moisture reduction is required.

Receiver Mounted

A combined compressor and receiver package for sites that need local air storage without an integrated dryer.

Receiver + Dryer

The most complete package, combining variable speed compression, air storage and refrigerated drying.

NOBEL Variable Speed Compressor Buying Guide

The NOBEL range covers two distinct variable speed technologies. The smaller 7.5–15 kW models use standard variable speed drive control, while the larger 18.5–90 kW range uses permanent magnet motor technology.

Range Power Best Suited To Key Difference
Standard NOBEL VSD 7.5–15 kW Workshops and smaller industrial systems with variable demand Direct-drive variable speed control
NOBEL PM VSD 18.5–90 kW Larger production and industrial compressed air systems Permanent magnet motor for high part-load efficiency
When does a NOBEL VSD compressor make sense?

It is strongest where compressed air demand changes throughout the day. The compressor can reduce motor speed when less air is required instead of repeatedly running fully loaded and then off-load.

What is the difference between standard VSD and permanent magnet VSD?

Standard VSD models use variable speed control with a conventional motor, while the larger PM range uses a permanent magnet motor designed for high efficiency across a broad operating range.

Is variable speed always the best choice?

No. A correctly sized fixed-speed compressor may suit a site with stable, continuous demand. Variable speed is most valuable where demand genuinely changes.

How should I size the correct compressor?

Select from required free air delivery, working pressure, simultaneous demand, daily running hours, leakage and sensible future growth. Do not choose from kW alone.

Which pressure should I choose?

Choose the lowest pressure that reliably supports the application after losses through dryers, filters, pipework and regulators. Unnecessary pressure increases energy use.

Does a receiver increase the compressor's CFM?

No. A receiver stores compressed air and helps manage short demand peaks, but it does not increase the compressor's continuous delivered airflow.

What installation checks are required?

Confirm electrical supply, ventilation, service clearance, receiver capacity, dryer and filtration requirements, condensate management and pipework sizing.
