Safety Relief Valve 1/4″ Male Bsp 11 Bar (SRV)

Safety Relief Valve 1/4″ Male BSP 11 Bar (SRV)

This is our 11 Bar safety valve designed for use with compressed air tanks and air receivers. It has a thread size of 1/4″ BSP male fitting and is made of brass.

A pressure relief valve, also known as a safety valve, serves as a backup safety mechanism for the pressure switch and the high-pressure safety switch in case either of them fails while the compressor is in operation. The pressure relief valve is calibrated to activate above the high-pressure switch setting and is typically set at or below the vessel’s maximum allowable pressure.

The pressure relief valve (PRV) is a crucial safety feature in air compressors, designed to protect the compressor and its parts from damage caused by excessive pressure. If the internal pressure exceeds the unit’s designated maximum, the PRV will automatically open to release air, thereby reducing the pressure to a safe level.

Each PRV is pre-set at the factory to a specific cracking pressure, which aligns with the air compressor’s design specifications. This cracking pressure is set higher than the cut-off point for the pressure switch that powers down the motor. If the pressure switch malfunctions and fails to power down, the PRV will activate to release air, preventing damage to the compressor and its components.

Understanding the role and functionality of the PRV in an air compressor is vital. It is essential to conduct regular maintenance and checks to ensure the PRV’s operational integrity and its ability to provide the necessary safety measures. The following sections will further explain the significance of the PRV and its operation within an air compressor system.

What is a Pressure Relief Valve?
A pressure relief valve (PRV) is a critical safety component used in various systems to control overpressure and prevent system damage or catastrophic failure. It is designed to open and relieve excess pressure when the system’s pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold, and to close once the pressure returns to a safe level.

PRVs are integral to the safety of compressed air systems, boilers, pipelines, and other pressurized vessels, playing a key role in any system that involves pressure containment.
